Hello Clue Hunters-
For that is who I think we are. We are the seekers of clues, the solvers of the whodunit and those who look to illuminate the answers to life and mystery novels. This blog will encompass so many aspects of who I am and what I care about that I would only feel comfortable if I am sharing it with my friends and fellow lovers of the mystery genre. So welcome my Clue Hunters!
I am a writer. Just recently I have decided to actually write about what I love, a mystery. There is nothing quite like a good murder mystery is there? So many wonderful and juicy elements to enjoy! First we begin with the setting. Where does the story take place? Is it somewhere mysterious that you have never been, is it your favorite place to go to or is it right in your own backyard? What time of year does it begin? Fall in New England, USA is very different than fall in Sydney, Australia. What about the time- is it the beginning of the day when the sun just rises and most people are just waking up or is it late at night when the world is quieter and things can hide in the dark?
Then we have our characters, the suspects and potential murderers. Who are they? Is the kind person truly kind? Or is the seemingly hard-hearted the one who is kind underneath? Is the murderer the obvious character or the sly one that hides in the background? We must get to know these people so that we can help decipher and solve the murder. But what about the victim(s), who were they in life and what do they represent in death? Then we have the detective, inspector or amateur sleuth- what relationship do they have with the other characters in the story? Are they an outsider looking in or do they have personal issues that may interrupt their ability to see the victim and murderer for who they really are?
These are questions that a good story teller will weave into the fabric of their tale. As the observer, you may not even realize that these questions are being answered for you as the drama unfolds. The catch is…this is true in real life as in a fictional murder story.
I am a writer. As I write and begin the mystery story on the page, I am also beginning the new story of my life. I ‘woke’ up a year ago to realize that I was half way through my life and very unhappily stuck. The dreams and ideas that I had planned my life around either didn’t pan out or too much time had gone by to pursue them now. I had the setting of my life. I was blessed in many, many ways. Married to a great guy, a lovely home, a job that paid my bills and was close to home so that I could see my fur-babies at lunch time and the opportunity to read and watch many murder mysteries. But there was a piece of me missing.
So my friends, as I create a mystery- I also hope to solve a mystery. Please join me. Whether you are an armchair sleuth, a fellow writer or a seeker trying to find all the pieces of a life well-lived- join me in this journey. Become a searcher for literary enlightenment. Join me as we solve the mysteries on the page and in our lives. Life is certainly an exciting page turner, let’s solve this one together!
